She highly recommends it to anyone interested in the history of the Republican party. Bev says, "It is written with fresh wit and a keen sense of humor." Here is a partial review of the book from Publisher's Weekly.

Whatever one's political persuasion, this breezy, hugely entertaining, opinionated chronicle of the Republican Party will nettle and provoke. Founded in 1854 by opponents of slavery, the party of Abraham Lincoln by 1897 had turned itself into a conservative arbiter that championed the liberty of the American marketplace, according to novelist Batchelor. Yet the Republicans, he maintains, have consistently claimed an obligation to the values of the American people, whether in support of liberty, sound money, trust-busting, anticommunism or family values. Among the Republican presidents he particularly admires are fearless, progressive Theodore Roosevelt, Nixon (whose Watergate-triggered ouster Batchelor blames mostly on vengeful Democrats' partisan politics) and Reagan, whose massive military buildup and aggressive foreign policy hastened the USSR's collapse, in Batchelor's estimate. Contemporaneous political cartoons and illustrations, memorabilia and campaign songs and verses are woven into the colorful narrative.
Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He successfully led his country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery.

Before his election in 1860 as the first Republican president, Lincoln had been a country lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and twice an unsuccessful candidate for election to the U.S. Senate. As an outspoken opponent of the expansion of slavery in the United States, Lincoln won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that year.

The first documented “senior moment”
_________________________________

Below is the list of committees for the North Ridgeville Republican Club for 2010

The Chairs of the committees are to report on February 23 at the Club meeting. But anyone who knows me must remember that walking (or marching) is not something I do very well; I can stand fairly still, however. Then there’s my phobia about being too far from a restroom; I plan to cut down on fluids 24-hrs in advance. I can sleep almost anywhere, anytime, so getting some sleep while riding down on the bus overnight shouldn’t be an issue for me.

It’s the “peaceful” part of the protest that concerns me the most. I think I’ve been looking for a fight over several issues these last few months and having the chance to be so close to the Arena (Congress and the White House) may be more than I can handle. My husband is less worried about me than the people who might be standing nearby.

Yours Protestingly, That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary.

2.) Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, they began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so.

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

May 2009 Newsletter

In honor of Memorial Day 2009, this issue of the Republican Club newsletter (including the snail-mail version) will be devoted to our Veterans, living and dead, those to whom we owe our very liberty.

"Thank you" will never be enough.

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (on May 25 in 2009). And they were right... all of their predictions have come true...

March 24th meeting is CANDIDATES NIGHT

The March meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 24th, downstairs in the Community Room of the First Merit Bank, Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.

We would like say, "Thank you," to Judge Lisa A. Locke Graves for giving the Club members a behind-the-scenes look at the new court house in Elyria. With its new "face" the court house gives some visitors a newfound respect for the Court's proceedings that wasn't there before.

At the Club's February 24 meeting, Judge Graves said that even the police officers notice the difference, and the defendant's - even though they'd rather not be there at all - carry themselves a little differently in the new building. Recharge Ohio is dedicated to reversing that trend so that we can bring jobs back to Ohio.”

Recharge Ohio has sent dzens of volunteers to all corners of Ohio in an effort to help candidates who share the organization’s vision for making Ohio a job-friendly state once again. From the City of Belpre in Washington County to the Village of Wellington in Lorain County, Recharge Ohio volunteers have been going door-to-door and making phone calls on behalf of State Representative, State Senate and Congressional candidates for the past 17 weeks.

“John Kasich and his Recharge Ohio volunteers have been in House District 94 several times to help my campaign with door-to-door efforts and fundraising,” said State Representative Candidate Troy Balderson. “We are truly fortunate to have an organization like Recharge Ohio assisting with our efforts to help turn around the state.”

A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.

May 3rd is the date for the NRRC Spaghetti Dinner, at Fields United Methodist Church. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news... the horse died."

Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back." The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

Chuck said, "Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse." The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off." The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead horse!"

Chuck said, "Sure I can, Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead." A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked,

"What happened with that dead horse?" Chuck said, "I raffled him off. He probably made as many important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.

The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri . His wife had inherited the house from her mother and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.

When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.

After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There were no Secret Service following them. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale."

Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise." As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food. Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed,

"My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference"

Here’s an interesting web site: http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/flash/

When you go there just point your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and that city's newspaper headlines pop up... Double click and the page gets larger.... cool!

If you can read other languages, it's even better. Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course).
